The benchmarking and group comparison feature in flowit brings powerful comparison options directly into the dashboard. Whether you are a team lead or have viewing rights across the entire organisation — this feature helps make strengths and development potential visible.
🔍 What is the difference between group comparison and benchmarking?
These two features complement each other — but they measure different things:
👥 Group comparison
Compares internal groups with each other — for example Team A vs. Team B, different professional groups, or age groups. The comparison groups are based on teams or other user attributes stored in the system (e.g. role, location). This makes internal differences visible.
📊 Benchmark
Compares your own results with external industry averages. The comparison values come from studies by the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) and Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences. This allows you to see how your organisation compares within the industry.
💡 Both features are available in the AI Dashboard — for both surveys and reviews.
🧭 Where do I find the feature?
In the AI Dashboard — for both surveys and reviews — there is a "Compare groups" button. This is where you access both features.
🛠️ How it works
Define groups — Comparison groups can be based on teams or other user attributes stored in the system (e.g. role, location)
View results — Bar charts show average values per rating question. Hover over the group name to see which users belong to that group
Analyse by section — For surveys or reviews divided into sections, the analysis can also be displayed at section level rather than question level
Add average values — Use the dropdown to add the following comparison values:
Survey or review average — the mean value of all participants (group comparison)
Industry average — based on studies by FHNW and Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences (benchmark)
Once a comparison value is selected, the bar colours change accordingly:
🟩 Green — Above average
🟧 Orange — Around average
🟥 Red — Below average
Excel export — The complete results can be downloaded as an Excel file at any time
⚖️ Important: All values are calculated on a 5-point scale
Group comparison and benchmarking always calculate on the basis of a 5-point scale — regardless of which scale was used in the survey or review. If for example a 10-point scale or a custom scale was used, the values are automatically converted to a 5-point scale.
⚠️ This means: the average value shown in the AI Dashboard may differ from the value in the group comparison if a 5-point scale was not used. This is not an error — it is a technical characteristic of the calculation method.
👥 Who can use the feature?
All users with viewing rights in the AI Dashboard can use benchmarking and group comparison:
Team leads can define comparison groups within their own team and compare their team against the overall average
Admins can define cross-departmental comparison groups
📋 Which questions are supported?
Currently only rating questions are taken into account. For industry benchmarks, only certain questions have external comparison values available — not all questions are covered.
💡 Our Customer Success team is happy to help set up surveys and reviews so that benchmarking and group comparison can be used to their full potential. A complete list of questions available for benchmarking can also be obtained from the Customer Success team.
